Behavioral Health: Overview & Referrals

University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) employees who subscribe to University Network Quality Care or Maryland Preferred Provider health plans have access to the UMMS Behavioral Health Plan.  The Behavioral Health Plan is designed to assure mental wellness to UMMS employees and their covered dependents.  The plan covers services related to mental health and chemical dependency.  To access services you should contact the Employee Assistance (EAP) at 410-328-5860 or after hours at 888-436-1280.

If a referral is needed or desired, the EAP will assist you in selecting a provider or facility, will complete the pre-authorization process, and will help make arrangements for the start of treatment.  The EAP will maintain contact with you and your providers to be sure that you are working toward a successful resolution.

Please remember to contact the EAP before beginning treatment.  The Behavioral Health Plan will only cover services that are pre-authorized by the EAP.
